Estimated Total Exit Entitlement

Service Period 0 years
Employer-Paid Pre-1 March 2024 Gratuity BHD 0.000
Estimated SIO EOS Amount From 1 March 2024 BHD 0.000
Outstanding Salary BHD 0.000
Unused Annual Leave Pay BHD 0.000
Other Earnings / Dues BHD 0.000

Important: The SIO end-of-service amount is displayed separately because the post-1 March 2024 benefit for covered non-Bahraini private-sector employees is administered through the Social Insurance Organization rather than normally being paid as part of the employer's final payroll. This calculator provides an estimate only.

What Is Included in a Final Settlement in Bahrain?

A final settlement is broader than end-of-service gratuity alone. Depending on the employee’s circumstances and payroll records, the settlement may include outstanding salary, payment for unused annual leave, end-of-service amounts, approved additional earnings and applicable deductions.

This distinction is important because Bahrain’s end-of-service rules for non-Bahraini private-sector employees changed from 1 March 2024. Employers now make end-of-service contributions to the Social Insurance Organization (SIO) for covered employees, while liabilities relating to service before the change may still have to be settled directly by the employer.

How the Bahrain Final Settlement Calculator Works

The calculator uses the employee’s basic salary and applicable social allowance to estimate the end-of-service and unused annual leave components. The final payroll salary is entered separately so outstanding salary for the employee’s final pay period can also be estimated.

For end-of-service purposes, the calculation applies 15 days of the applicable wage for each year of the first three years of employment and one month’s wage for each subsequent year. Fractions of service are estimated proportionately.

If you only need to estimate the employee’s end-of-service entitlement, rather than the complete exit payroll, use the Bahrain gratuity calculator.

How the SIO System Affects Final Settlement

The SIO end-of-service gratuity system for covered non-Bahraini private-sector employees became effective on 1 March 2024. Employers make monthly contributions equal to 4.2% of the applicable wage during the employee’s first three years of service and 8.4% thereafter.

The calculator therefore displays two end-of-service amounts separately. The first represents an estimated employer liability for qualifying service before 1 March 2024. The second represents the estimated end-of-service amount connected with service under the SIO-administered system from that date.

The employee’s actual SIO entitlement should be verified against the wage and employment information recorded with the Social Insurance Organization. Official guidance is available through the Social Insurance Organization.

Unused Annual Leave in the Final Settlement

Bahrain Labour Law provides for payment of the qualifying unused annual leave balance when the employment relationship ends. For the relevant statutory calculation, the wage basis is the employee’s last basic wage plus social allowance, if applicable.

The calculator therefore keeps unused leave separate from outstanding salary rather than applying the employee’s full payroll package automatically to both amounts.

When Should Final Settlement Be Paid in Bahrain?

Under Bahrain Labour Law, where employment ends, wages and other amounts due should generally be paid immediately. Where the employee leaves employment on their own initiative, the employer may settle the employee’s wages and entitlements within a period not exceeding seven days from the date of leaving.

Check the Settlement Before Processing the Employee Exit

Before approving the final amount, employers should reconcile the employee’s joining date, final working date, salary records, social allowance, leave balance, outstanding earnings, deductions and SIO records. Contractual compensation, notice pay, disputed deductions or other case-specific amounts may also affect the final payment and are not automatically calculated by this tool.

Businesses handling regular employee exits can also use payroll services in Bahrain to support payroll calculations, employee records and final-settlement processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is final settlement the same as gratuity in Bahrain?

No. Gratuity is only one component. Final settlement can also include unpaid salary, unused annual leave, other confirmed earnings and applicable deductions.

Which salary is used to calculate Bahrain gratuity?

The statutory wage basis is generally the employee’s last basic wage plus social allowance, if any. Different treatment applies to certain employees paid through production, commission or percentage-based arrangements.

What changed for expatriate gratuity in Bahrain in 2024?

From 1 March 2024, Bahrain introduced an SIO-administered end-of-service gratuity system for covered non-Bahraini private-sector employees. Employers make monthly contributions and the employee can claim the applicable post-reform benefit through SIO when employment ends.

Does the calculator include unused annual leave?

Yes. Enter the employee’s confirmed unused leave balance and the calculator estimates the corresponding leave payment using the applicable wage basis.

Does the calculator include notice pay or termination compensation?

No. These amounts depend on the employment contract and the circumstances of termination. If an amount has already been confirmed as payable, it can be entered under “Other Earnings / Dues.”

Use the Estimate as Part of the Final Payroll Review

A final settlement should be checked against the employee’s actual payroll, leave and SIO records before payment is approved. Employers managing employee exits across Bahrain and the wider GCC can find additional payroll calculators, compliance guidance and payroll resources from Payroll Middle East.

Disclaimer: This calculator provides a general payroll estimate only. Actual entitlements can depend on the employee’s category, employment contract, SIO registration, wage history, leave records, termination circumstances, previous payments and applicable Bahrain law.
